Winter sewing with less than a metre of fabric
Need some inspiration for your winter projects? Here are some quick sewing ideas that you can make quickly with less than a yard of fabric.
To your sewing machines!
A pretty short skirt
With less than a meter of fabric, you can sew a short skirt for winter wear with thick tights and a wool sweater. A comfortable outfit in no time.
In terms of pattern, the Calypso model from Vestiaire Éponyme lets you sew a pretty, short, asymmetrical skirt that’s fully lined. It closes with a button or snap, eliminating the need for a zipper and making this a quick sewing project.
You can use any type of winter fabric: velvet, corduroy or not, jacquard, fine wool… You’ll also need lining fabric and iron-on for the waistband.
If you don’t mind a zipper and want to make a more classic pencil skirt, the Georgia pattern requires only 60-80 cm of fabric. It’s possible to use several colors in patchwork, so you can assemble pieces of fabric you have in your closets.

A sleeveless jacket for the whole family
If you’re looking for a project that’s simple, quick to sew and comfortable to wear, the Goya short vest is for you! This sleeveless shepherd’s vest is available in several versions: for babies, for children and for adults. Each variation requires less than a meter of fabric.
You can sew it using faux fur, sherpa fleece, bouclette fabric, quilted fabric, a thick sweater… And line it with cotton scraps from your closet.
Depending on the look you’re going for, this little vest can be fastened with a button, a tie or a brandebourg…
A highly versatile project that will change completely depending on the fabric and finishes chosen.

A long-sleeved t-shirt for kids
The long-sleeved t-shirt is a basic winter wardrobe staple for children. It can be worn with a cardigan, under a sweater or under a dress to keep warm. It’s also a fairly simple sew, especially if you’ve already worked with jersey, and requires very little fabric.
To make our t-shirt, you’ll need just 60 cm of jersey. You can also use fleece fabric to make a warm undershirt or a comfortable pyjama top.

Removable hood for the whole family
If your coat doesn’t have a hood, why not sew the removable hood from Instinct couture? Very practical, it slips under your garment and can then be stored in its small integrated pouch. So you can always have it in your handbag and take it out whenever it rains.
To sew this accessory, you’ll need a meter of fabric, preferably waterproof or water-repellent, which you’ll quilt with cotton or fleece.
For the lining, you can easily draw on your fabric scraps. The material simply has to be pleasant to the touch, as it will be in contact with your skin around the neck.
For this project, you’ll need to know how to install a separable zip: the hood can open in two.

A new winter bag
If you’ve got fabric scraps or yard-long fabric coupons you don’t know what to do with, sewing a bag is a great way to clear out closets while adding an accessory to your wardrobe.
To make our half-moon bag, you’ll need just 30 cm of main fabric and 60 cm of lining.
Many fabrics are suitable for this project: velvet, sherpa fabric, upholstery fabric, denim, bachette… You can also use cotton and quilt it with wadding to make it thicker and more resistant.
You’ll also need a zipper, strap and buckles to adjust its length.
