What cocooning garments should you sew to keep you warm this winter?
Autumn arrives and brings with it a desire to stay at home, get into pyjamas and hang out in front of a good series.
Here are some ideas for sewing comfortable clothes for those long, cocooningSundays .
Comfortable pants
To feel cosy at home, we start by getting rid of our jeans or other skirts that are tight around the waist. For an alternative to the pants we wear to the office, we can make a pair of jogging-inspired sportswear pants, wide-legged and slightly baggy.
For example, you could sew Miss Cactus’s pants, which are wide in the leg and tightened at the ankle with ribbing.
For maximum stretch, it’s assembled using jersey, which can be thicker or thinner depending on your level of frizziness.
If you want your indoor wear to be soft, you can opt instead for fleece-lined jersey (also known as alpine fleece or alpine fleece sweat fabric ), which will be very warm and comfortable.
Prefer to wear loose, flowing pants that don’t hug the leg at all? Head for the Patronnes, Orsi model.
If you’re not fussy, you can assemble it using a simple cotton fabric(cotton voile, cotton poplin…). Or prefer a thicker fabric like flannel. For the ultimate in cocooning, or to follow the season’s trends right into your living room, choose a plaid fabric.
Both projects are accessible to beginners. So don’t hesitate to reproduce them to practice taming your sewing machine.

Cosy pyjamas for kids
Pyjamas are a good project to get you started in jersey sewing: a simple shape, few finishing touches…
For example, you can make our Chaource pyjamas for children aged 2 to 10. No need for ribbing! Simply slide an elastic band around the waist to hold the pants in place.
Here again, you can use jersey, preferably cotton, which is more breathable than its synthetic counterparts.
But if your child likes fleece, you can also choose this material for warm, soft pyjamas. It will need to be slightly stretchy to achieve the same effect as jersey.
A long sweater for the whole family
What better way to warm up those long winter evenings than with a sweatshirt-plaid?
The Kandix pattern allows you to sew this ultra-cozy piece for the whole family. Its wide, long shape and oversized hood make it particularly pleasant and comfortable.
To sew it, you’ll need to choose wispy, plush materials: faux fur, sherpa/teddy fabric, fleece, velvet jersey, fleece, fleece-lined jersey…
You can choose a plain fabric, a printed fabric or play with colors by using contrasting hues for the sleeves, the inside of the hood and the large front pocket.

A sweater dress
If you like long sweaters or wearing dresses indoors, with leggings or fleece tights, the Opale dress from Le Graouly qui coud is for you. With its batwing sleeves, inspired by Japanese kimonos, this sweater dress will be very comfortable to wear at home or for winter strolls.
To keep your garment warm, choose a thick jersey, fleece or French Terry, a thick jersey that’s fluffy on the reverse and therefore very comfortable to wear next to the skin, or with a thermolactyl t-shirt.
You can also choose a woollen fabric, which will be less comfortable as it’s not stretchy, but will keep you just as warm.

Flannel pyjamas
Flannel is a particularly soft, slightly wispy fabric made from either wool or cotton. It’s an ideal material for sewing pyjamas, as it’s comfortable and resists washing well.
If you want to make this winter essential, you can use Burda’s pattern. It’s very simple and suitable for both men and women. If you’re just starting out, it’s a great way to get started!
