Which dresses to sew for the bohemian trend?

This summer, the bohemian look is in. It’s the perfect opportunity to get out your best floral and wispy fabrics and sew pretty long dresses.

Here are a few design ideas to keep up with this summer trend!

A ruffled dress

Bohemian looks are particularly in vogue this summer. To adopt this trend with 100% handmade garments, we’re having fun with prints (flowers, soft colors…) but also with volumes, to obtain long and wispy pieces.

In particular, you can make ruffled dresses, which allow you to play with colors and textures by using several contrasting fabrics.

The Mirabelle dress from Miss Cactus features a gathered collar and flared skirt. Depending on the length you want, you can add one, two or three ruffles.

When it comes to fabrics, it’s important to choose a lightweight fabric that’s more comfortable for summer. It will add fluidity to the ensemble: soft viscose, cotton voile, double cotton gauze

If you want to emphasize the country feel of the room, opt for a floral print. This summer, we’re going for small flowers with foliage and bright colors!

A shirt dress

Very comfortable and elegant, the shirt dress can add a bohemian touch to your outfit if you choose a flowing floral fabric.

The Klafoutis pattern offers several variations on this basic. Including a short-sleeved version perfect for summer temperatures. Depending on the effect you’re looking for, you can choose to sew a knee-length or ankle-length dress.

This summer, we’ll be seeing a lot of long cuts and wispy outfits that reach right down to the feet. So don’t hesitate to lengthen the hems!

To sew this pattern, you can choose a cotton with English embroidery, white or colored.

Butterfly sleeves

As mentioned above, bohemian-inspired dresses often play on volume: ruffles, gathers…

If you want to have fun with these shapes, you can sew the Comme une fleur model with its butterfly sleeves, which give it a particularly original, romantic touch.

For optimum effect, choose a fluid fabric such as viscose, cotton voile, tencel, lyocell or fine linen.

If you don’t like floral prints, you can opt instead for fabrics in pastel colors, which are on trend this season and will stay in the bohemian spirit: lilac, powder pink, pale blue…

Sheer fabrics are also very much in vogue this season, so you can choose lace to sew on part of the dress, such as the butterfly sleeves.

A long dress

The long dress is the bohemian dress par excellence. To assemble this type of piece, you need to pay particular attention to the cutting stage, so that it falls nicely at the ankle. You can either take your own measurements and compare them with the pattern pieces, or model a dress you already have and are happy with the length.

If you’re looking for an elegant piece with slender straps and elaborate finishing touches, you can start by making Delhi, Fée’s dress by hand. As with previous models, choose flowing fabrics such as viscose or cotton voile. This garment contains fairly complex technical stitches, so it’s best reserved for seasoned seamstresses!

A dress with a bare back

Summer also marks the return of dresses with side cut-outs or bare backs. Two trends very compatible with bohemian fashion, since they are usually found on long dresses.

Maison Fauve’s Byzance dress allows you to sew a low-cut dress at the bust and back. This dress contains sophisticated finishes that make it perfect for summer, worn with a pair of sandals or a blazer for cooler evenings. This piece can be sewn in a flowing off-white or cream fabric and paired with brown accessories to accentuate the bohemian look.
