What will be the trends for back-to-school 2025?
Colors, prints, shapes… Here’s a quick overview of what we’ll be wearing this fall and how to sew it yourself!
The tiles
This fall, checks will be back in fashion, in their colorful counterpart: blue, yellow, red… So don’t hesitate to stock up on tartan fabrics and other vibrant tartans to make pants, skirts, jackets… Which you can wear as a total look or with plain clothes for greater discretion.
To highlight the checks, for example, you can sew Instinct couture’s Fauvette bridge pants in their wide-leg version.

The skirt suit
This season sees the return of the skirt suit, two very classic pieces in the women’s wardrobe, which can be worn independently of each other to break up the preppy look, or as a total look.
To sew these two pieces, look in your patterns to see if you don’t already have a pencil skirt pattern and a jacket pattern that could work together, and choose a nice, fine, flowing wool.
Soft, powdery pink will be on trend this season.
If you don’t have any patterns to hand, Apolline patterns offers an easy-to-sew tailored skirt to match the Lily blazer.
The leopard
Every season brings its share of animal prints! This autumn, leopard is once again the fashion favorite.
This type of print works best on a fluid fabric like viscose, and with a light-fitting design like the Angelica dress from Muna Patterns. With its ruffles and wrap-around shape, it will give a leopard look that’s more romantic than rock.
And if you’ve had enough of the spotted feline and prefer other animals, know that cowhide or zebra prints will also be in vogue this season!

Bright colors
While previous autumns have been marked by fairly neutral colors, brighter, more acidic hues should emerge from September onwards. The idea is to wear them together as a color block: orange, yellow, red, hot pink… All these colors can coexist in the same outfit.
To follow the color block trend, you can use a pattern you already have and mix several colors, or prefer a pattern specifically designed to combine several fabrics, like this dress pattern from Vogue or the t-shirt designed by Moi je couds.

The great passes
White blouses will still be on trend this season. But we’ll be adding a large collar to give them a touch of originality and maximalism.
To follow this trend, for example, we can sew the Anna blouse from République du Chiffon with its large collar and slightly puffed sleeves using a soft cotton voile or white viscose.
If you’ve never sewn a blouse and are apprehensive about this somewhat technical piece, the Anna pattern is a good way to get started. It’s easy to assemble and allows you to familiarize yourself with how to attach a collar or button placket.
The total denim look
Denim will be very much on trend this season, especially when worn as a total look: jeans, jacket and shirt.
To achieve this result without having to sew several pieces separately, you can make a jumpsuit like this one from Maison Fauve. Highly detailed, it can be sewn with denim or denim-blue gabarine.
The piece is made up of numerous details (button plackets, Italian pockets…) that can be long and tedious to assemble. Preferable if you’re already a bit at ease with these technical points.
A short bolero
The 2000s continue to make a comeback. After bows and low-rise jeans, it’ s the turn of the bolero, the very short cardigan, to enjoy a second youth.
For example, you could sew it with faux leather to combine two strong autumn trends. Or opt for a more casual fabric like wool or cotton.
It’s easy to wear with jeans or a dress. And it can be shortened even further to emphasize its crop effect.
