Sew loose-fitting clothes to withstand the heatwave
Summer is going to be hot. To avoid sweating too much in your clothes, you can sew loose-fitting garments in comfortable materials such as linen, cotton or hemp.
We’ve selected a few oversizedclothing patterns for you to wear all season long!
Oversized tops for adults…
When it’s hot outside, it’s best not to wear clothes that are too close to the body. Out go tight-fitting jersey T-shirts and tight dresses. We prefer loose, vaporous tops that don’t cling to the skin and allow the body to breathe more easily.
It’s also best to wear natural fibers like linen and cotton: synthetics tend to retain heat and absorb perspiration poorly.
This summer, we’re sewing wide tops with straight or even flared shapes, like the Patronnes Matisse top, which is quick and easy to assemble and can be sewn in several colors to match skirts or pants.
It can be made from soft linen, cotton gauze or light cotton voile.
If you want to emphasize the oversize aspect, you can sew one size up or add a few centimeters to your size: always remember to measure yourself before you start assembling a garment to get the desired result. Handmade sizes rarely match those in ready-to-wear stores!

If you’re looking for a top with a richer finish, Botticelli has a few more sought-after details: buttons and a square neckline. It’s a top that will look particularly good in a natural linen fabric, or in lace or broderie anglaise to emphasize its country look.
For an even looser, more comfortable blouse, without sacrificing detail (buttons, gathers…), go for the oversized Mango-Chocolate Matcha pattern, whose flowing look works well with a cotton voile.

… and for children
Children will also be more comfortable in loose-fitting tops, which are best worn on hot days. For example, you can sew the Clémentine top by Klafoutis, which is available as a dress and a top. A simple, quick-to-make strapless top that you can sew in double cotton gauze.
Our Mimolette blouse is also a great ally for warmth, with its straps and extra-wide shape. You can sew it with wispy linen or breathable cotton poplin.

Long dresses
The long, wide dress is also an ideal summer ally. It protects you from the sun and makes you feel more comfortable when you sweat.
If you’re in the mood for a loose-fitting dress that doesn’t sacrifice meticulous detail, Glynis by Comme une fleur is for you! It’s slightly tight at the bust, but still wide enough to offer comfort in hot weather. Here again, choose a flowing cotton or fine linen.
You can also sew the Pansy dress. It’s a little looser around the bust than Glynis, and has the advantage of being quick and easy to make. You can sew a straight version or one with gathers. This allows you to play with colors if you wish.
For children, you can sew Ikatee’s Léna strapless dress – also available in a blouse version – which plays with gathers and yokes to create a loose, comfortable garment. Here again, you can play with colors, prints and materials for an original result.

Oversized pants
When it’s hot outside, forget leggings and skinny pants and slip into loose-fitting pants. You can, for example, make these from Lab Zéro. Quick and easy to sew, with a cotton fabric that’s more or less fluid, depending on the look you want to achieve. You can also sew your own linen pants. Just bear in mind that this fabric wrinkles very quickly.
For babies and children, our Gaperon pattern allows you to sew wide, comfortable pants, elasticated at the waist. We recommend a printed cotton poplin for fluidity and lightness.
