Which pants to sew for spring?
As soon as the warm weather returns, we want to put wool skirts and jeans in the closet and bring out flowing pants in cotton, linen or viscose.
We’ll give you some inspiration for sewing pretty pieces for spring!
Loose-fitting pants
The return of the sun and rising temperatures make us want to sew ourselves some nice, flowing, loose-fitting pants.
Lighter than our winter jeans, they’re also more breathable and pair perfectly with our hand-sewn spring tops and t-shirts.
The look of your pants will depend very much on the fabric you choose. If you’re looking for a very flowing fit around the legs, you can choose a light viscose. You’ll easily find fabrics printed with flowers, stripes or soft colors (pink, pastel blue, yellow…) to suit your seasonal mood.
Viscose has the advantage of being very supple and fluid, but it’san artificial fiber (made from a natural material, wood cellulose).
If you prefer, you can opt for a more natural alternative such as fine linen or lightweight cotton(cotton poplin, cotton voile…).
When it comes to patterns, you’ll be spoilt for choice depending on the finishes you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a very ample shape, you can sew the Yasmine model by Kandix.
Cali by Clic Pattern is a little narrower and its finishes (notably the pleats on the front) will give a dressier look while retaining the oversized, comfortable feel.
The Patronnes Orsi pants are fastened with a fabric belt for a feminine touch.
For children, you can opt for the adapted version of the Yasmine pattern or make our Rigotte model, available in sizes 12 months to 14 years.
Whatever the pattern, baggy pants are one of the easiest to assemble. There’s no need for a fly or belt loops, as most models are elasticated at the waist.
This is a great project if you’re just starting out or if you want to sew several versions of the same pants with different fabrics without spending hours!
Sportswear pants
This spring, sportswear will continue to be on trend. We’ll be wearing sweatshirts, sneakers, tank tops… And jogging pants will also be part of our wardrobe.
Unlike the previous sewing project, we won’t be choosing a warp and weft fabric, but a knitted fabric such as cotton jersey, which will be stretchy and particularly comfortable.
Choose a lightweight jersey for spring and avoid lined jersey or fleece.
Moi Je Couds’ Sprint pants combine the spirit of sportswear with the DNA of city pants, thanks to their meticulous finishing (side pockets, high waist…).
Still in the spirit of springtime sportswear, leggings are also in vogue. Once again, you’ll need to choose a stretchy jersey to make them. When buying, check that the fabric is not too thin or too transparent.
You can sew Atelier Adriette’s Kim pattern for adults or our pattern for babies and children. This is a fairly simple sewing pattern, accessible to beginners. A good way to familiarize yourself with stretch fabric and its particularities.
Pleated pants
In contrast to the previous two comfort-oriented trends, spring will also see the emergence of a trend linked to the workwear wardrobe: pleated pants. We’ll also be wearing fitted, well-cut pieces that refine the silhouette.
To sew this trend, follow the Caramel Delight pattern from Muna Patterns. This sewing pattern is more suited to people who have already mastered their sewing machine than to beginners. It requires a fly, pockets and a belt.
When it comes to fabrics, you can choose cotton gabardine, flowing crepe or linen for a natural, chic look. This spring, white pants will be in fashion. You can therefore choose a fiber in this shade for a dazzling look.
As the pants are quite close to the body, you’ll need to choose a slightly stretchy fabric. Aim for at least 5% stretch. If you buy online, this information is always specified on the product sheet.
