Sewing gifts for Valentine’s Day
Looking for a unique, personal gift for your loved one this Valentine’s Day?
We’ve selected a few quick sewing tips to let your loved ones know you love them.
A jewelry pouch
If you want to give a lovely personalized gift to someone who has lots of earrings, necklaces and other barrettes, you can sew them the Miss Cactus pouch.
It’s a project that requires some basic sewing skills, including the ability to attach zippers and snaps. If you master these techniques, you should be able to assemble it in no time.
The pouch is made up of several pieces: cotton for the outer fabric, cotton for the inner fabric and imitation leather (or upholstery fabric, velvet…).
This allows you to really personalize the project by mixing colors that the person you’re giving it to likes, or using motifs like hearts, pretty flowers…
And if your budget allows, you can of course slip a piece of jewelry into one of the pouch’s compartments!

An envelope containing a love note
Romantics who want to give a heartfelt gift can sew a pretty fabric envelope. The idea is to use a print reminiscent of Valentine’s Day: flowers in soft colors, hearts, pastel cotton… Or toupcycle a fabric that the person loves but no longer has any use for. For example: an old blouse, a childhood comforter cover…
For this project, you can transfer an envelope of the desired size after carefully peeling off each side. Then simply cut a fabric to the same dimensions and assemble it like the original envelope.
Our in-house tutorial shows you how to do it step by step, with the help of a video tutorial and a free pdf pattern.
If you have time, you can embroider the person’s first name and address. Then simply write your most beautiful love letter and slip it into the envelope!

Little cloth hearts
If you’re lacking inspiration for Valentine’s Day this year, why not take inspiration from the ultimate symbol of this holiday: the heart? You can sew small heart-shaped cushions. Then fill them with stuffing and place them in unexpected places for the person to discover throughout the day: at the breakfast table, in their bag, in their lunchbox…
It’s a very easy project to make and can be sewn with fabric scraps. If you’re looking for a pattern and step-by-step explanations, head for the Buttinette website, where you can download a PDF pattern including two heart sizes. c
A decorative mobile
For decorating enthusiasts, Atelier Scammit offers a free pattern for sewing a pretty mobile made of little hearts.
This mobile can be hung on the wall and, above all, customized using a variety of fabrics.
For example, you can choose fabrics in your loved one’s favorite colors, to match their hobbies…

Coasters
Does your Valentine spend all day drinking hot beverages at home or in the office?
Make her pretty coasters with a heart-printed fabric or a red or pink fabric.
This free tutorial from Thirty Hand Made Day shows you how to sew a set of coasters featuring a heart, using the reverse appliqué method. You’ll need a fairly thick fabric (an upholstery fabric, for example) in a neutral color. And a piece of printed cotton for the heart.
You can also make a heart-shaped coaster. Simply cut two pieces of fabric in the desired shape, right sides together, leaving a small opening. Then turn them inside out, sew an invisible seam and you’re done.
If your fabrics are thin, and you’re using cotton poplin for example, you can add a thin fleece between the two layers of fabric. This will protect the tables from the heat of the mug.
Katia’s website offers a free tutorial for this project.
