Colors and trends for 2026
The new year is here, and with it comes the desire for new couture projects! What trends and colors will we be seeing everywhere in 2026?
Here’s an overview to help you find inspiration for your next project!
White: Pantone color for 2026
Every December, the Pantone Color Institute, the world’s color specialist, defines a hue for the coming year.
In 2025, the trend was for Mocha Mousse, a slightly pinkish brown. The color of 2026 will be ” cloud dancer “, a wispy white that invites us to ” take a break “, in the words of the institute. A color that can inspire us to sew accessories (a scrunchie, a bag, a scarf…) or garments (pants, a top, a jacket…).
It can also be incorporated in small touches in a seamstitch, yoke or neckline.
The lace
Trendy for several seasons now, lace will continue to be very present in fashion in 2026. A good way to play with materials and transparency effects.
In sewing, lace can be superimposed over another fabric, such as viscose, to emphasize the pattern without being visible through the garment. This technique can be used to sew a simple, wispy top or the bustier of a dress.
If you like the lace effect, but don’t feel like working with it, you can opt for cotton in broderie anglaise, which is easy to sew and lends a bohemian, country touch to any garment.

Workwear
This year, fashion is dusting off workwear. Outfits traditionally associated with work and the office (pantsuits, skirt suits, pencil skirts, Oxford shirts and vaporous silk blouses…) will be in vogue.
However, we’re making them a little more modern by opting for oversized cuts (for example, these wide-leg pants by Kaysol Couture), avoiding overly square shoulder pads and overly curved skirts. A good way to reappropriate these rather stuffy pieces.
Exploration
In 2026, we’ll be seeing a lot of khaki, adventurous shirts, linen and brown. And with good reason: the “adventurer” look will be in vogue, bringing with it a world of camouflage.
An opportunity to sew comfortable clothes: modernized cargo pants like this model by Maison Fauve, or a wide linen shirt like the boyfriend shirt by Atelier Brunette.
This year will be marked by a quest for comfort, so don’t hesitate to look for loose-fitting cuts and flowing fabrics.

The colorblock
Already very much in vogue a few years ago, colorblocking is making a comeback in 2026. It consists in combining several colors, often very bright and strong: yellow and pink, blue and green, violet and blue… In the same fabric (which contains large colorful patterns) or in an outfit (wearing blue pants, a violet top and an orange jacket, for example).
Colorblocking is a great way to have fun with colors, try out unexpected combinations and mix and match pieces from your wardrobe that you don’t usually wear together.
This trend can provide inspiration for sewing. For example, you can use different fabrics and colors for the same garment: make a sweater (like the one from Klafoutis) with different-colored jerseys. One color for the sleeves, one color for the body, one color for the ribbing.
Some models, like this skirt from Vestiaire Éponyme, come with several yokes. You can also choose fabrics that blend several shades to make a dress or top.
For kids, the Dream sweatshirt is perfect for quickly sewing an original warm top!

The tiles
Checks, already very fashionable in 2025, won’t go out of fashion! We’ll continue to see gingham prints and tartans in every color. The tartan pattern is easily found on woollens or cotton twill, and can be used as the basis for a pretty pencil skirt like the one on Fée Main Patrons.
What do you feel like sewing for the New Year? Are you already planning your wardrobe for spring?
